Traveling with Young Children

Traveling with toddlers can present a challenge for parents.  As you travel this holiday season to out of town relatives, let me share an article I came across in The Parent Express Newsletter from FunShine express. Also feel free to share your comments and experiences on traveling with toddlers.

Before you go….

Tell your child about the trip. Share pictures of people and places you’ll see. Let him/her know what to expect.

Plan your trip, but remember to flexible. You may not be able to do everything you have planned. Allow time for the unexpected.

Plan stops ever two hours or so. Allow your child to be active when out of the vehicle. Bring a spill proof bottle of bubbles, a ball or Frisbee for the children to play with at rest stops. Don’t get back into the car until everyone is ready to go again.

Children do not travel well if they are tired or hungry. Try to travel at night or during naptimes. Pack snacks and water for between meals. Take along a touch of home with you…a blanket, cuddle toy, pillow.

Pack an activity backpack with books, toys, markers, paper, etc.

Any other ideas? Let share them us.
