We’ve been loving the children of Elmsford as if they were are very own since 2006. We strike the perfect balance between fun, enrichment and community every day we’re open. This is a special place for children as young as six weeks and as old as five. The preschool program provides an excellent education in school readiness skills.

Pooh and Friends is run by its founder, Barbara Lazaar, a veteran public school teacher with 25 years experience. Barbara hires, trains and mentors only loving, capable staff members committed to early childhood education. There’s never a student ratio lower than 4 to 1.

The foundation of learning for children is a sense of self-respect and worth. Learning is more powerful when children are having fun. Everything we do centers on self-respect, worth and fun.

Our philosophy of caring for infants centers on stimulation, language and love. We speak with the infants we care for, play with them, read and sing to them, encourage interaction, and play with age-appropriate toys.

Toddlers receive stimulation, language and love, and we add stories, gross motor play, and enrichment activities that are as zestful and fun as they are educational.
Horizons really start to expand for kids in our preschool program. School readiness programs begin in earnest, with reading, math, science, music (including weekly visits from a trained music teacher), and computer literacy. Frequent field trips make learning an adventure at museums, farms, science centers and other destinations. Our preschool enrichment is so good that some of our kids are admitted to the gifted and talented program in Yonkers and some would meet the entrance standards for the independent schools.

The demands on today’s parents require a variety of schedules – we’re here when we’re needed, from 7 AM to 6 PM. We provide a nutritious lunch and morning and afternoon snacks. Our blog entries and pictures show happy and engaged children, our warm and safe facilities, and our field trips.
